作者点评:Now the end of the novel should come, and so do this paper. Charlotte Lucas and Elizabeth Bennet are taken as typical example to discuss women’s marriage at Jane Austen’s time. Due to the historic background, women have very limited choice of their marriages, especially those without good fortunes. They have to marry men with estates to secure their livelihoods. Charlotte belongs to this group. She marries Mr. Collins only for the economic purpose, and naively thinks she can get happiness from her marriage. But the fact is not like that. It’s really a pity for her. Unlike her good friend, Elizabeth has a totally different view towards marriage. She refuses to marry Mr. Collins and Darcy’s first proposal. Few women can do the same thing at that time. She always wants to find her true love. After experiencing many obstacles she finally gets married her true love, Mr. Darcy. Elizabeth and Darcy's marriage is an excellent match. They understand, attract and love each other. They are financially secure, romantic and enjoy each other’s companionship. They are the two I believe would be most happiest in life. Austen wants the reader to know that marriage should be approached as a package deal - a package of love, financial stability, physical attraction, and happiness.
