1. TYPES OF NETWORKING
Computer-integrated manufacturing(CIM) is a philosophy of integrating hardware and software in such a way as to achieve total automation. Although each company has its own idea of what CIM really means, most follow a pattern similar to that in Fig.1. In this diagram, dedicated processing tasks are shown distributed around a factory. As computers are further removed from the actual manufacturing area, their function shifts from real-time control toward supervision.
